Charity work

I am an Honorary Associate of Newnham College, Cambridge, where my role includes promoting Newnham and advising undergraduates.

My other pro bono work has included advice to Marie Curie Cancer Care on funeral planning, and mentorship for the Write to Life project, Medical Foundation for the Care of Victims of Torture (now Freedom from Torture).

I am mentoring a nursing leader from Iraqi Kurdistan and supporting her leadership of a centre for continuing nursing education.

I was a trustee of the Queen’s Nursing Institute, a registered charity that works with the public, nurses and decision-makers to make sure that good quality nursing is available at home for everyone when they need it.

I support the British NGO Medact, which speaks out for countless people across the globe whose health, wellbeing and access to proper health care are severely compromised by the effects of war, poverty and environmental damage. I worked on its influential series of public health reports on the impact of conflict on health in Iraq, and edited the pioneering online course Medical Peace Work.
